Karmic gift for Nina

Karmic gift

Every year before Christmas, our company MycoMedica returns to tradition and gives a "karmic" Christmas gift. This is mainly because it makes sense to help. As part of the Christmas gift, our wholesale partners also get the opportunity to donate money where it is needed and we pay for it. Together, we share the warm feeling of giving and enter the New Year a little more cheerfully.

Nina

In 2022, we are thus together to help Nina. Nina was born in May 2016 as a healthy baby. When the little girl was 4 months old, she stopped feeding the horses and lifting her little legs off the mat. From then on, the whole family went for various checkups until they learned in 2017 that Nina had spinal muscular atrophy type 1. This disease affects many areas of health, causing the little girl to see many doctors. Since the age of two, she has also been struggling with a curvature of the spine that gradually worsened, so the little girl had to undergo a challenging spinal surgery, which the doctor straightened using a titanium rod. So every six months she has to have the rod lengthened so that her back can grow like a healthy child.
Part of living with such a condition is daily exercise, which is as important as the application of medication in this diagnosis. Nina goes to regular physiotherapy sessions and these sessions help her a lot.

How have we helped Nina ?

We paid for Nina's two-week rehabilitation stay at the Hendi Centre in Piešt'any. This centre is visited by many young patients with SMA and they have great experience with them.

Nina and rehabilitation in Piestany

"In the second half of March I went to Piešt'any with my family to do a rehabilitation stay at the Hendicentre - a rehabilitation facility that offers a special programme for patients with spinal muscular atrophy. From the 13th to the 24th of March, I underwent two weeks of intensive exercise, which is very important in my disease. I started exercising early in the morning every day and after a morning block and a quick lunch, there were afternoon therapy sessions. I started the morning with bio-lamp radiation and magnet exposure, followed by massage, individual two-hour sessions with 3 physiotherapists, ball therapy, pool or jacuzzi exercises, spider suspension exercises and music therapy. The exercise was really intense and there were times when I fell asleep in my room after the afternoon block (and this hasn't happened to me in several years ).
At the end of the two-week program, I saw noticeable results - my standing had improved and my sitting muscles, which had been weakened due to my back surgery, had strengthened.
I would therefore like to thank you very much for the financial donation that made the exercises at the Hendicenter possible.
I would therefore like to thank you very much for you and your company for making it possible for Nina to undergo rehabilitation at the Hendicentre. It was very beneficial."
